Matthew Jones Photography is a commercial photography provider that specialises in specific sectors. One of those core competencies is interior design photography.

This case study shows some of your work from a recent shoot at a newly refurbished Mcdonald's restaurant in Derbyshire.

Prior to any commercial photography shoot we speak to the client to gain an understanding of the intended use for the images. The background in this case is that customers of Mcdonald's are looking for faster, more efficiency and greater choice in how they order their food. Walk in and drive through remain core to how customers order, the redesign of McDonald’s kitchens and dining areas will better integrate digital sales channels.

Key features include a new entrance and a dedicated collection area for McDelivery couriers, designed to reduce congestion in the restaurant. A new front counter has been installed, creating separate areas for different styles of payment, with the goal of achieving less congestion around touchscreens, and shorter queues.

There is a great case study of a recent project combing interior photography with architectural photography in a Commercial Property Photography shoot I did for the redevelopment of Elder Way in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

When it comes to commercial properties Interior design photography is more than capturing the beauty of interior spaces. It often used to showcase functional design as well a the aesthetic beauty. For more information about architectural photography you should we have an architectural photography page.

Commercial Property Photography case study - Elder Way

Commercial property photography is one of our commercial photography services. This recent project located in the delightful market town of Chesterfield is the former Co-op department store and has undergone a 1 Billion pound refurbishment.

We work for architects, property developers, marketing agencies and interior designers. We cover development and regeneration projects national. For projects located in Birmingham in the West Midlands, Nottingham in the east Midlands and Sheffield in South Yorkshire we do not charge for travel.

We shoot interior and property photography projects for well known high street retailers such as Marks & Spenser, Holland and Barrett and McDonald's

We have the skills and knowledge to so select the best angles and lighting to attract clients. This includes showing the locations proximity to attractive features, demonstrating good footfall and potential for further development

The result is the creation of very strong imagery that showcases the property to potential clients in compelling manner. The photography we produce becomes and asset that works across social media, PR, Websites and printed material such as pull up banners.

The regenerated mock Tudor building dating from the 1930s, which was formerly a Co-op department store, has seven spacious high quality street level units ready for businesses to move into. The Co-op store closed in 2013 and is now about to enter a new phase at the heart of the town.

It is great to see photography in use and you can see some of the imagery captured in on the Elder Way web page. Professional photography is a great asset to your marketing activity. The visual aspect to a property marketing campaign needs to be right and this is where Matthew Jones Photography can help you. Mustard Wharf Development Leeds.

Mustard Wharf is a high quality modern residential development comprising of 3 separate apartment blocks. Mustard Wharf is located in South Bank: a neighbourhood basking in one of the largest and most ambitious regeneration projects in Europe. It’s a distinctive destination for living, creativity and pleasure. It's a few minutes from Leeds train station and adjacent to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

I waited a couple of weeks to shoot on a day with guaranteed sunshine. The strong shadows helping to focus the attention on the building and also highlighting the patterned brickwork.

Architectural photography poses it's own challenges.  The decisive moment is extended beyond a fraction of a second, but nevertheless time and viewpoint are just as crucial. It's amazing how quick the sun moves when you don't want it to or how slow it is when you are waiting fo the right moment.

Generally light is more flattering during the hour after and before sunrise. However day time architectural photography can give a more realistic impression of the building and emphasise the architect and not the photographer  Either way the sun and shadows move with surprising speed when you're in the process of setting up a shot.

Matthew Jones works throughout the UK and you can discover more about his Architectural Photography though this website.

Below is some of the interior photography I shot for Holland & Barrett at the Intu Centre, Derby.  Photographers will assess each space with a critical eye to determine the best approach to photograph it. Light, composition and the narrative element are often at the for front of their thoughts.

Reviewing these images in 2023 I think composition wise they are okay, I think if I shot it now I would light it better and not relay on the store lighting that doesn't lend it's sell for photography. I also don't like the writing style, it seems a bit obsequious maybe? I recently shot interior design photography for Mcdonald's so you can compare the two.

The 'space' or new store is fantastic and a perfect example of how a savvy retailer is responding to the changes in consumer behaviour, in a connected world and tough economic times.

I'm not a typical consumer or marketeer but even I have noticed we have different expectations than we did a few years ago. It is fascinating to see how a switched on retailer responds to the new consumer environment in practice.

This it not a store where you simply browse the aisles until you find what you are looking for, make a purchase and leave.  It's about providing inspiration, an emotional engagement and showcasing strong brands and products.

It's not just a 'shop' it is a destination, focused on the individual and creating a lifestyle routed in a solid brand, something that continues across their digital presence.  There is a strong connection and integration between their online retail store, social media, and physical store, they work together and for each other, very savvy.

There was a product expert in store employed solely to look after customers and  the customer service was exemplary, creating a strong customer loyalty base and increased conversion rate.

The range of products is phenomenal yet it is easy to identify each section and product type through strong displays that are individual yet consistent. It is easy to flow through the store, in fact it is almost like a series of multiple destinations under one cohesive brand.

Well I am impressed anyway!
