Greyhound Pub, Friargate

The Greyhound Pub dates back to at least 1734, although the building may be substantially older. It was situated near the Gaol and as such is thought to have been the place where criminals who had been condemned to death were taken for their last drink.

The beautiful London Plane trees have graced the elegant Georgian street scene of Friar Gate since the 1860s. They were planted along the length of Friar Gate by public subscription.
